Fleet Manger  

Inside IR35

Contract Term:  6 Months

Contracting Authority: Network Rail

Location: Derby or Bedford 2- or 3-days week in office remaining days at home

Job Purpose.

Pool of fleet – short term leases and long-term hirers.  Set up processes and procedures – governances.  Experienced in managing fleet before.   Working with the various teams in relation to who needs van/cars.

To develop and deliver a cost-effective programme of work for all road vehicles and fleet management services. Responsible for developing and implementing strategy to create an efficient and effective Fleet operation which meets the business requirements whilst achieving maximum value and contributing towards the efficiency of Network Rail.

As a Fleet Manager your main responsibilities will be:

  • Direct the Road Fleet team to deliver the team’s strategic programme of works.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain efficient and cost-effective fleet management policy and procedures to deliver quality fleet services in support of the route teams to enable efficiency and quality targets to be met.
  • Lead on achieving efficiencies through optimising fleet requirements and specifications for optimum mobility.
  • Develop an appropriate strategy for the development and delivery of the Road Fleet work scope, which supports the wider strategy.
  • Manage all commercial aspects of the fleet provision including all vehicle purchase and major partner/supplier contract negotiations, management, and service delivery.
  • Identify opportunities within the Road Fleet remit and lead promotion and sharing of best practice between departments.
  • Establish effective relationships with both internal and external key stakeholders and suppliers.
  •  Lead on Road Fleet by planning, justifying, budgeting, and forecasting the provision of fleet transport services to meet the current and future business needs. Delivering a flexible, competent, skilled, and effective workforce always
  • Lead compliance in corporate health, safety, quality, and environment processes for operating the fleet for the non-Route functions.
  • Direct and maintain vehicle specification/equipment, maintenance, and service regimes for all fleet vehicles to the required standard to maintain accurate and secure records. 

Essential:

  • Relevant experience in the successful management of major programmes of work in the fleet management and/or rail industries.
  • Extensive experience of leading a road fleet.
  • Strong commercial focus and financially astute.
  • Knowledge of the principles of Health & Safety, quality and environment legislation and best practice.
  • Exceptional communication with demonstrable delivery of leadership and behavioural change within a large organisation
  • Demonstrable experience of professional capability in vehicle mechanics and latest technology
  • Demonstrable knowledge of the fleet supplier market, ideally having spent time working supply side.
  • Demonstrable ability in maximising commercially efficiencies in road fleet management
  • Substantial experience in development and maintenance of asset management control systems.
  • Experience of contract and supplier management with strong commercial negotiation skills.
