Cost Engineer (Inside/Outside IR35)

Contract Term: 15.5 months.

Contracting Authority: AWE

Location: Aldermaston- hybrid with an expectation for 2 office working days per month.

 

We are currently recruiting for a Cost Engineer on behalf of our client AWE.

 

What if you could work on something that you can’t test… but cannot afford to fail? Something that could have spent years on a submarine, is launched into outer space (where the temperature is below -250c), comes hurtling through the atmosphere, being heated up and shaken and then must work? Some challenge.

AWE plays a crucial role in national nuclear security. Their role in nuclear deterrence and their specialist technical assistance to nuclear threat reduction is vital in the defence against the most serious threats faced by the UK. Working to support the defence of our country, AWE has a clear mission: to keep everyone, the environment, their products and information, sites, and everything around them, safe and secure.

As a Cost Engineer, your main responsibilities will be: 

 

  • Support detailed SPI, CPI variance analysis and root cause analysis, including input to the narrative, recommendations & recovery planning in accordance with monthly reporting timescales.
  • Support the creation of the Project Cost Breakdown Structure (CBS) and assist the preparation of cost studies utilising historical data. Providing data for benchmarking information to meet specific needs.
  • Support trended data to assist the Project Manager based on performance to date and seek emerging trends to aid recommendations.
  • Review manpower productivity and time bookings to projects including resource usage vs. planned, identify resource constraints, etc. and support recommendations to the Project Manager.

 

 

Essential:

 

  • Active SC Clearance
  • Stakeholder Management
  • Strong Communication skills
  • Able to work gap between planning and wider delivery team.
  • Able to assess/review supply chain costs.
  • Public sector experience would be beneficial especially in helping understand annualised financing.
  • Knowledge of an ERP platform, ideally Oracle.
  • Knowledge/understanding of P6
  • working with planning community adjacent to P6
  • Professionally qualified with chartered or equivalent status
  • Success in a Project Controls environment or similar Cost role on a major construction project
  • Adept with tech such as Cost tools, Excel, and IT
  • Building rapport and creating great relationships
  • Motivating and building teams

 

 

 

Desirable:

 

  • Defence/Nuclear background not essential
  • Knowledge of Oracle Fusion would be ideal.
