Location: Remote with monthly visits to Swindon
The role:
- The UKRI Risk and Assurance Business Manager will report to the Senior Risk and Assurance Business Partner.
- As part of the risk & assurance team you will help to create embed and maintain the UKRI risk management framework and the UKRI assurance framework.
- You will work closely with the Management Assurance Team and others in the Corporate Hub and in the Councils to provide leadership and support decision-making.
- You will be the named Manager for specific councils, corporate, cross cutting areas and programes/projects.
- You will be a link between the areas you support the corporate team.
- You will work with the risk and assurance team to establish a positive risk and assurance culture across UKRI.
- The risk specialist will work closely with others across UKRI, ensuring that UK Research and Innovation operates best practice throughout its governance, accountability, risk management and integrated assurance arrangements.
- The Risk & Assurance Manager with support the Head of Risk in ensuring that risk management processes are appropriately wide ranging to recognise the differing natures and requirements of the organisation including head office, councils, programmes and institutes.
As a Risk & Assurance Manager your main responsibilities will be:
- Assist in the development and implement robust risk management arrangements for UKRI.
- Working closely with UKRI Corporate Hub, the Councils and major programmes, to implement an appropriate policy, strategy and support arrangements that align with UK Research and Innovation’s overall risk and management assurance frameworks; ensuring compliance with relevant international and, Government standards and best practice for risk management and management assurance.
- As qualified risk professional, be responsible for assisting in the development of a full suite of risk policies and guidance for UKRI which support the organisational vision and strategic objectives, are innovative, provide the agility to respond to internal and external changes in environment, are in line with best practice and are delivery focused.
- Take a risk-based assessment on the best time to implement new policies to minimise disruption and protect the delivery of operational services;
- Constructively challenge and advise a range of stakeholders varying in their levels of seniority on all aspects of risk and assurance across UKRI.
- Lead on specific risk areas, developing additional specialist knowledge
- Support all areas on the implementation of the UKRI Integrated Governance Risk and Assurance framework (IGRAF)
- Lead on specific major projects and investment programmes, providing expertise, advice and challenge including assessment of the risks in business cases and the ongoing management of risk in the programme.
- Work with the project managers to implement appropriate processes and guidance.
- Deliver a risk management training and awareness programme for all levels staff
- Assist in establishing and supporting a network of risk champions across UKRI
- As line manager, lead by example, ensure staff understand their role and are able to develop their skills and make a positive contribution to the work of the team.
- Advise assigned areas on emerging areas of risk, review new programmes and processes to identify potential risks.
- Undertake assurance activities and contribute to internal reviews and review of control effectiveness
You’ll have relevant experience in:
- Certification in Risk Management Assurance
- Proven relationship building and stakeholder management skills
- Project Management qualification (desirable)
- Demonstrable ability to work collaboratively across a broad team
