The first duty of Government is to protect the public. Since 1782, the Home Office has led work to keep the country safe from those who seek to do it harm; in doing so, we make a vital contribution to HM Government’s plan for a stronger, fairer, outward-looking and united Britain.

The Home Office covers three systems: Homeland Security, Public Safety and Borders, and Immigration and Citizenship. These systems work collaboratively to deliver our cross-cutting priorities, whilst providing increasingly efficient and secure services for the public. These are difficult areas that can rapidly change in the global environment we work in – this makes us one of the most exciting and stimulating government departments in which to work.

About the role:

NSTIx is an independent, cross-HMG partnership, to drive a more effective approach to national security (NS) Science, Technology and Innovation (ST&I). As part of the services NSTIx provides, we aim to connect the government NS ST&I ecosystem through delivery of high impact messages, communications assets and organisation of small virtual events for a range of public and private sector stakeholders and partners to support consistency, shared guidance, tools, and processes.

This exciting role sits within the central policy and planning teams within the NSTIx unit, reporting to the G7 Engagement, Communications and Governance lead. You will have a pivotal role project managing and overseeing the delivery of a large-scale government event with partners.

As an Event Lead your main responsibilities will be:

  • Project Management for a large-scale government event considering event logistical issues concerning venue security, attendees’ security, agenda, exhibitors. Leading a small delivery group from xHMG, reporting regularly into seniors to update on key milestones.
  • Regularly updating seniors (written and verbal) on the event’s progress and escalating where necessary
  • Horizon scanning for event opportunities- Liaise and engage with the departmental embeds and xHMG colleagues to develop opportunities for NSTIx wider HMG stakeholders to be represented in the event.
  • Event communications- developing a forward looking event comms plan and launching clear, consistent event communications for attendees, speakers and exhibitors- alongside the delivery group partners.

You’ll have relevant experience in:

  • Active SC security clearance
  • Strong event project delivery expertise, with knowledge and experience of the cross-HMG national security landscape, experience in developing project plans and leading a team to deliver.
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong stakeholder relationships with a wide range of organisations and people and using those relationships to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Experience communicating with seniors (Director-General level), verbal and written briefings to the SRO for the event will be regular.

Other desirable but non-essential criteria:

  • Experience within the Science & Technology / National Security sector.
