Business Continuity Manager (Inside IR35)

Contract Term: 12 Month Contract

Contracting Authority: NTS

Location: Remote 

 

The Business Continuity Manager is to lead the creation, training, exercising, reviewing and assessing NTS’ business continuity processes / plans in line with the Business Continuity Institute (BCI) and aligned to ISO 22301. 

 

The Business Continuity Manager will provide expert advice to and supports the Head of Resilience in delivering against the function’s objectives in relation to business continuity whilst supporting wider resilience arrangements across the rail and maritime environments. Support the resilience portfolio in meeting the expectation of all Regulatory bodies (ONR, MCA, and ORR etc.). Assist in the provision of consultancy opportunities within the wider SAR department.

As a Business Continuity Manager, your main responsibilities would be: 

 

  • leading the effective maintenance and upkeep of all existing business continuity arrangements 
  • To ensure that NTS are working towards and following the principles as presented in BCI and ISO 22301
  • To provide expert and professional advice at all levels of the company on all resilience matters 
  • Support in the analysis, design, implementation, validation and embedding of emergency and business continuity processes/plans which should cover all relevant and credible scenarios, ensuring compliance with regulation, legislation and industry best practice.
  • Lead, create and coordinate internal and external business continuity exercises, including production of follow up reports and debriefs (where required), ensuring any lessons learned are captured and acted upon in a timely manner through the business management systems 
  • To assist both Resilience Managers on matters involving changes to regulation
  • To lead in the creation of training material and delivering of education to NTS employees who require it 

Process ownership for the management and development of the following: 

  • Lead the delivery of all business continuity management processes
  • Support all resilience based projects and process maps

 

Staff will: 

  • Be expected to support implementation of corporate/management decisions & initiatives 
  • Manage own workload, including time and deadline management, performance, self–development, health and well-being 
  • Mandatory requirement to form part of the out of hours on-call team 

 

 

You’ll have relevant experience in:

 

  • Emergency and business continuity environment 
  • Developing emergency plans and/or business continuity arrangements 
  • Good knowledge and experience of all applicable regulations, conventions and good practice relating to resilience and the arrangements therein 
  • Analysis, design, implementation and validation and embedding of business continuity process/plans 
  • Carrying out producing written reports with recommendations and specifications 
  • Delivery of education to company employees 
  • Working within a regulated business environment. 
  • The capability of working at all levels across NTS, especially with customers, regulators, partners/suppliers and other stakeholders in order to develop and deliver an effective business continuity management provision.

 

 

You will also have these Qualifications/Skills:

 

  • Good first degree or Level 5 qualification and/or at least 3 years’ experience in a security/ EP&R related environment  
  • Emergency and business continuity planning qualification
  • Certificate of the Business Continuity Institute (CBCI) qualification
  • Good interpersonal and communications skills and ability to engage at all levels 

 

It would be great to also have: 

 

  • Degree in a security/EP&R related subject 
  • Approved trainer qualification  
  • Member of a Professional Affiliation (e.g. UK’s Security Institute or the Institute of Risk Management (IRM) or the BCI) 
  • Completed NSAN triple bar
