DevOps Engineer (Inside IR35)

Contract Term: 12 months   

Contracting Authority: Department for Work and Pensions

Location: Hybrid – Birmingham, Blackpool, Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle and Sheffield

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is responsible for welfare, pensions, and child maintenance policy. As the UK’s biggest public service department, it administers the State Pension and a range of working age, disability and ill health benefits to around 20 million claimants and customers. Strategic Modern Analytical Tooling (SMAT) is a project team in Data as a Service responsible for understanding the needs of the Analytical Community (AC) in relation to their use of SAS9.4 so that the AC can move to a agreed solution of SAS Viya 4, a modern analytical tool and the successor to 9.4. SAS Viya 4 is a product provided by SAS who are a company. Viya 4 needs to be on a Hosted Managed Service (HMS) i.e. Microsoft Azure

 

*SC Clearance is an essential requirement for this role, as a minimum you must be eligible and willing to undergo these checks*

 

Essential Skills:

  • AWS or Azure – both a broad and in-depth knowledge of a cloud provider, preferably AWS with an appreciation of the other.
  • Knowledge of serverless computing and containers are a distinct advantage, as well as an appreciation of large scale data processing.
  • In depth knowledge and experience of Terraform required, especially around writing reusable and modularised code to current coding standards, as well as integration with Gitlab.
  • Good working experience and knowledge of Gitlab especially in the area of pipelines, deployment, creation and use. Integration with Ansible or other CaC beneficial
  • Good working knowledge of a container and orchestration system, eg Docker/Kubernetes, Podman, etc
