We are currently searching for Infectious Disease Modelers that we are recruiting on behalf of the Department for Health and Social Care for a 6-month initial contract. This role is based in London but can be worked remotely.

As an Infectious Disease Modeler / Data Scientist, you will: 

  • Provide scientific support in infectious disease modelling to the epidemiological investigation of incidents and outbreaks, supporting local response in collaboration with other partners. 
  • Lead and manage the technical and analytical aspects of epidemiological outbreak investigations
  • Take a lead role in Infectious disease modelling, public health scientific analyses and writing reports on specific projects, regular and ad hoc commissions and publications.
  • Provide data science support to the Epidemiological investigative work, supporting technical analysis and aspects, from a data science perspective assisting the epidemiological outbreak investigation.

 

You’ll have:

  • Educated to MSc level in relevant subject or equivalent level of experience of working at a similar level in specialist area.
  • Principles of modelling and knowledge of infectious diseases.
  • Experience of interpreting and evaluating epidemiological data, sensitive health data analyses and performing analytical epidemiology in outbreak situations.
  • Demonstrable experience of public health, health protection or epidemiology
  • Proficient in one or more common statistical/database/mapping tools such as:  R, Python, GIS, network analysis or SQL.
  • Knowledge and experience of common statistical tests, modelling and analyses and interpretation of results
  • Understanding of data governance and data protection


It would be great to also have:

  • PhD desirable but not essential
  • Experience in epidemiological outbreak surveillance situations.
  • Completed the Field Epidemiology Training Programme or equivalent training and experience in infectious disease epidemiology
