Caseworker - Inside IR35

Contract Term: 20 weeks

Contracting Authority: MoD

Location: Hybrid – London 3 days a week

The Ministry of Defence’s key responsibility is to protect the security, independence, and interests of the UK, at home and abroad, working closely with our allies and partners, as well as Whitehall colleagues.

The Defence Afghan Relocation and Resettlement (DARR) Directorate is a new organisation set up to manage the process for supporting eligible Afghans who supported the UK mission in Afghanistan over the past 20 years to come to the UK, and once here to be assisted to begin their new lives with their families. It is important and rewarding work, supporting one of Defence’s highest priorities and reports directly into the Permanent Secretary.

In addition to leading on all relocation and resettlement policy, the Directorate is responsible for assessing the applications of Afghans who still wish to relocate to the UK, enabling the relocation of those eligible, managing Whitehall and international relationships, at the highest strategic level (including daily Ministerial interaction) and directing and cohering all of the relocation and resettlement activity across the Defence enterprise.

As a Caseworker, your main responsibilities will be: 

  • Making decisions in accordance with relevant Government Policy. Where appropriate, seeking guidance from colleagues, SMEs and tech specialists.
  • Analysing evidence provided, requesting further information from DBS where necessary.
  • Engaging with stakeholders to ensure robust employment checks have been carried out.
  • Ensuring electronic records are promptly/accurately updated to reflect case progress/outcomes.
  • Dealing with sensitive/personal info in accordance with DPA
  • Responding to queries internally/externally and from applicants regarding ARAP. Supporting shared mailbox.
  • Promptly escalating issues to Team Leads as appropriate.
  • Managing/assessing cases in alignment with policy, operating procedures and guidance.
  • Notifying applicants by email of their application to ARAP outcome, once decision is made.
  • Responding promptly to urgent tasks/requests for Information.
  • Stakeholder management
  • Working to ID if translation/interpretation is required to aid applicant. Working with DARR translators
  • Liaising with stakeholders/OGD’s to ensure objectives are delivered
  • Processing cases of interest e.g., ARAP Category 4.
  • Adhering to/ensuring others are complying with DARR governance/data protection protocols
  • Completing all mandatory training


  • Experience of analyzing information from multiple sources, with keen eye for attention to detail
  • Delivering at pace –daily targets for cases
  • Good understanding of English, especially written.
  • Competency in using Office 365 (Word, PP, excel etc.)
  • Active SC Clearance
