We are currently searching for experienced Network Engineers that we will be recruiting for on behalf of UK Research and Innovation for a 6-month initial contract based in Didcot.

The successful individual will be working as the main technical resource in a small project team delivering a number of significant enhancements to the LANs on the campuses at Rutherford Appleton Laboratory and Daresbury Laboratory.

As Senior Network Engineer, you will: 

• Implement 802.1x
• Configure and installing routers to provide additional resilience in the LAN
• Reconfigure a number of routers which receive an uplink from older hardware which is due for retirement
• Participate in a workstream to present options for a core network design to provide scientific networking to our campuses for the next 10 years
• Deliver the required changes to harmonise and strengthen the configurations of multiple FortiNet firewalls running within the organisation
• Produce high quality documentation of the changes to the systems that you undertake

You’ll have:

• Strong trouble shooting and fault diagnosis skills, including the use of packet analysers
• IP routing and configuration of routers (Mainly HP and Extreme)
• Network switches and configuration of switches (Mainly HP and Extreme)
• TCP / IP protocols v4 and v6
• Experience of working on large successful network projects
• The ability to perform repetitive tasks accurately, with significant attention to detail
