We are currently creating a pipeline for Immigration Lawyer roles that we will be recruiting for across several Government Organisations and Contracting Authorities in the coming weeks / months.

As an Immigration Lawyer, you will: 

  • Provide expert advice and make decisions on complex, exceptional and high cost applications submitted to the Exceptional & Complex Cases Team
  • Handle challenges in relation to Director of Legal Aid case work decisions and other associated work by applying the correct statute, regulations
  • Subject specific guidance and case law
  • Deal with applications made for a client by a solicitor but also applications made directly by the client if Exceptional Funding itself
  • Help to build the capability of others by providing feedback, coaching and training for colleagues so they can develop their case work skills and knowledge and will help with the legal supervision of partly qualified paralegals also recruited to deal with Brexit applications

 

You’ll have:

  • Legal qualification as a solicitor, barrister or FILEX with two year’s post qualification experience (PQE) on recruitment in the specialist area of immigration, asylum, nationality, human rights and public law
  • Understanding of main concepts of public law, reliable legal judgement and legal and costs risk
  • Ability to explain in writing and verbally by telephone the rationale behind the decisions that you have made and the criteria that you have applied
  • Ability to analyse large amounts of information, to independently research relevant case law, country guidance, policy, immigration rules, EEA regulations and statute and to apply discretion and reasoned judgement in instances of ambiguity or where limited guidance is available
  • Ability to apply legal principles to make reliable professional judgement to independently assess prospects of success, benefit and costs
