Job description

Are you an experienced leader, with an extensive track-record of driving positive change and delivering data-centric value in large organisations? Do you have extensive experience in Data Governance and Data Policy? If so PSR would like to speak to you!

 

As Head of Data Operations, you will: 

  • Be an experienced leader, with an extensive track-record of driving positive change and delivering data-centric value in large organisations
  • Have a utilitarian view of Data Governance & Policy, focussing on the value that it can bring to the rest of the organisation, while ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Have extensive experience in data governance and data policy and experience with ICO and GDPR.
  • Be an exceptional people manager, capable of enthusing your own management team and the overall Data Governance & Policy function.
  • Embody both the highest standards of personal integrity and professional conduct, acting as a role model for all of Data Governance & Policy.
  • Be steeped in each of the areas within your control, able to provide thought-leadership also to effectively represent Data Governance & Policy in a variety of forums.
  • Be excellent at both forming and nurturing relationships, working collegiately with a range of people at multiple levels, while maintain a laser focus on overall CDO objectives and those of your function.
  • You will be experienced at both building teams and transitioning of interim teams, mostly supported by third parties, to permanent in-house staff.
  • Work with the Director of Data and Data Science to finalise the future data architecture, consistent with the overall Data Strategy, and ensure buy-in for this from all stakeholders.
  • Establish transition states moving towards this data architecture, aligning with and influencing the direction of in-flight projects
  • Blend the above into a roadmap covering the maturation of data assets and establish / own a process of governing changes to this, including the review and prioritisation of new requirements.
  • Accountable for the maintenance, extension and improvement of the analytical / operational data repositories and the population of these with all necessary data feeds.
  • Drive operational excellence and efficiency in this area, serving the needs of analytical and insight colleagues.
  • Together with Data Architecture, identify and implement tools to support the ingestion, consolidation standardisation and transformation of data.

 

You’ll have:

  • Experience of fulfilling a senior data role in ideally the public sector, or at least a demonstrable ability to quickly be successful in new industries
  • Experience of running multiple teams in the data governance, data architecture, data science, and data engineering space.
  • Experience of working with senior partners to define common strategic goals.
  • Experience of translating strategic direction into plans for delivery.
  • Experience of building multi-disciplinary teams and empowering them for delivery.
  • Experience of working at pace to deadlines across multiple projects.
  • Experience of working with a range of internal and external stakeholders at senior level to deliver complex data objectives.
  • Experience of working with international stakeholders to understand new and emerging data technologies.
  • Evidence of being flexible and adaptable to change.
  • Evidence of effective verbal and written communication skills.

 


It would be great to also have:

  • Experience creating and developing a comprehensive set of programme structures to deliver a data operations agenda.
  • Working with delivery of complex data science and engineering projects.
  • Working with range of commercial, academic and government stakeholders to deliver innovative solutions against customer need.
  • An advanced degree (Doctorate or equivalent) in a data discipline.
