Job description

We are currently creating a pipeline for Freedom of Information Advisor roles that we will be recruiting for across several Government Organisations and Contracting Authorities in the coming weeks / months.

As Freedom of Information Advisor, you will: 

  • Manage a caseload of FOI requests through to completion within 20 working days, ensuring policy officials complete appropriate searches, correctly apply the FOI Act to any information, and draft a high-quality response letter
  • Advise Treasury colleagues, including senior leaders, on the requirements of the legislation and how to interpret and apply this to the circumstances of their request in a clear and timely fashion
  • Engage with policy groups to share relevant knowledge and information, to improve understanding and quality of responses
  • Suggest and deliver solutions for the appropriate handling of sensitive information through discussion with key stakeholders to provide effective, legally compliant responses

You’ll have:

  • Valid and active CTC Clearance or higher
  • Communicate in a straightforward, honest and engaging manner, choosing appropriate styles to maximise understanding and impact
  • Promote a culture of following the appropriate procedures to ensure results are achieved on time whilst still enabling innovation; Regularly monitor your own and team’s work against milestones ensuring individual needs are considered when setting tasks; Act promptly to reassess workloads and priorities when there are conflicting demands to maintain performance
  • Ability to analyse and use a range of relevant, credible information from internal and external sources to support decisions; present strong recommendations in a timely manner outlining the consideration of other options, costs, benefits and risks
  • Experience of working in a casework environment and interpreting and applying complex rules and regulations to a set of circumstances
  • Experience of handling requests under the FOI Act or experience of information disclosure issues or records management
