We are currently searching for Winter Response Operations Managers that we are recruiting on behalf of the Department for Transport for a contract position running until the end of March 2021. This role will be worked remotely initially, but may require some office based work in Central London with a return to BAU.

The Winter Response Operations Manager will operate to manage issues at pace raised within Government, by industry and the public related to how the road parts of freight and logistic operations work over this winter. This is in the context of managing disruption to nationally important supply chains in the light of Covid, weather related disruption and at ports and on the road network in the period after the end of the EU transition.

As Winter Response Operations Manager, you will: 

  • Monitor and track enquiries received, including via a shared team email inbox, picking out the main themes raised and producing daily updates on actions in train
  • Respond to requests to relax temporarily the rules for driving hours for lorry and bus drivers
  • Consider proposals for other regulatory easements to commercial vehicle rules, such as operator licensing and vehicle testing by bringing together the relevant leads to facilitate communications and escalate issues where necessary
  • Escalate driver and workforce welfare issues raised with the Department
  • Support the availability and supply of labour and vehicles in key sectors
  • Support the short-term economic viability of the sector by helping it identify business support from central or local government or devolved administrations, including by maintaining and adapting updated FAQs, top public lines and signposting people to relevant guidance or announcements

 

You’ll have:

  • Strong Communication skills
  • Previous policy experience

 

 

Please Note: This role will include shift working on a “5 days on, 3 days off” basis between the hours of 7am and 10pm.
