Senior Digital Front End Developer

Contract Term: 6 Months     

Contracting Authority: The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office

Location: Glasgow or London – Hybrid working

 

The Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) and the Department for International Development (DfID) merged on 1 September 2020 to form the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO).

This role requires working with a broad spectrum of common web frameworks and be responsible for implementing visual elements that users see and interact with in web browser applications.

Your primary focus will be on developing user interface components, Chrome browser plugins and implementing them following well-known React.js workflows (or other frameworks as applicable). You will work closely with our design and backend teams to bridge the gap between design and technical implementation, ensuring a seamless and engaging user experience.

As a Senior Digital Front End Developer your main responsibilities will be: 

  • Develop new user-facing features using React.js or other modern JavaScript frameworks.
  • Build reusable components and front-end libraries for future use.
  •  Optimize components for maximum performance across a vast array of web-capable devices and browsers.
  • Collaborate with the design team to translate UI/UX design wireframes into code
  • Work closely with backend developers to integrate front-end code with server-side logic
  • Conduct code reviews and provide constructive feedback to team members
  • Stay up-to-date on emerging technologies and industry trends to continuously improve our front-end development practices
  • Troubleshoot and debug issues that arise during development and in production environments
  •  Maintain high coding standards and practices and ensure code is well-documented

 

 

 

You’ll have relevant experience in:

 

  • Experience in developing plugins for Chrome Browsers
  • Proficiency in front-end languages and frameworks such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React.js, etc
  • Strong understanding of web standards, responsive design, and cross-browser compatibility
  • Experience with version control systems such as Git
  • Knowledge of RESTful APIs and asynchronous request handling.
  • Familiarity with UI/UX design principles and tools
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Attention to detail and a passion for delivering high-quality software
  • Beneficial Technologies - Day-to-day working using toolsets including Microsoft Visio, Atlassian Jira / Confluence, Standard Microsoft Office applications (PowerPoint, Word, Excel)
  • Chrome browser plugins

 

SC Clearance is an essential requirement for this role, as a minimum you must be eligible and willing to undergo these checks.
