Infectious Disease Data Scientist (Inside IR35)

As
Infectious Disease Data Scientist you will: 

 

  • Provide scientific support in infectious disease modelling to epidemiological investigations 
  • Lead and manage the technical and analytical aspects of epidemiological outbreak investigations
  • Take a lead role in Infectious disease modelling, public health scientific analyses and writing reports on specific projects, regular and ad hoc commissions and publications
  • Provide data science support to the Epidemiological investigative work of the department, supporting technical analysis and aspects, from a data science perspective assisting the epidemiological outbreak investigations

 

 

You’ll have:

  • Educated to PhD degree level in relevant subject or equivalent level of experience of working at a similar level in specialist area. Principles of modelling and knowledge of infectious diseases.
  • Experience in epidemiological outbreak surveillance situations.
  • Post doctorate level or similar experience would be desirable.
  • MSc in Epidemiology, public health or allied discipline or equivalent level of experience/education
  • Completion of the Field Epidemiology Training Programme or equivalent training and experience in infectious disease epidemiology essential.
  • An understanding of data governance and data protection.
  • Knowledge of principles and practice of surveillance, including data management, data transmission, data security, data quality, data analysis including descriptive statistics and graphics and data reporting.
  • Experience of interpreting and evaluating epidemiological data, sensitive health data analyses and performing analytical epidemiology in outbreak situations.
  • Demonstrable experience of public health, health protection or epidemiology including epidemiology for outbreak investigations
  • Knowledge and experience of common statistical tests, modelling and analyses and interpretation of results
  • Experience of using epidemiological and statistical software packages
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with proven presentation and scientific report writing skills.
  • Proficiency in common statistical/database/mapping tools such as:  R, Python, GIS, network analysis or SQL.

 

It would be great to also have:

  • Public sector or government experience
